I just discovered the Kreg pocket hole jig kit myself recently. Great little tool to help a non woodworking guy like me reinforce some bunk bed rails. Ever since I did that project I've been thinking about what little things I can build with just that jig. Cool to see Cody build something using that exact tool.

Very very nicely done Cody absolutely perfect love how you use the screws you just use the screws for what they are and don’t ram them into next week you are a very skilled fella and a pleasure to watch
Tzuede Off the Cuff
Tzuede Off the Cuff 2 måneder siden
@Da Wall Not relevant.. You can coat the the entire thing in boiled linseed oil wait one week then paint it with a polyurethane brush.. Finally, Use Kapton Tape and Emergency Blanket to bind the outside and make it almost as good as a fire safe... AND if you didn't notice.. He mentioned this is NOT a FIELD CACHE.. It for Grab and Go!.. So then your only complaint should be a set of wheels and a handle.

2 questions. 1, how did you manage to find 1x6 that was all the exact same width, or did you mill this lumber yourself? And 2, how did you get pocket screws to not draw the piece in the direction of screw travel, such that the piece that is receiving the screw not the piece with the pocket holes ends up proud of the joint without clamps?

I have a similar pocket hole jig, but it's a step down from that one. Still, really easy to use, and great for making "farmhouse style" furniture.

Hey Mr. W! With all of your carpentry skills would you ever attempt at making a wood + epoxy table/furniture piece in the future when you are all settled? I think it'd be quite neat to see you give that a go with your expertise, else there is a local NOpostr located in Portland by the name of Blacktail Studio that does wood + epoxy builds (a colab. would be neat?) Thanks from Canada!

Very nice kit. I love it. I'll take one...lol. Questions: Did you/do you plan to put drain holes in case of water or fuel leaks. I didn't see a spot for bar oil or is that in one of what I thought were fuel bottles? No glues to seal the seems? Not being a smart a$$, I really want to know.

I don't know if it's really worth mentioning, but as I watched you build this I noticed something. You did pocket holes for the joinery on all the slides, but it at least looked like for the bottom, you just did a straight outside-to-in screw hole. My thought is that if you did also a pocket hole from the inside, then ALL the outside of the box wouldn't be subject to the degradation of the outside, but using just straight out-to-in's on the bottom, it could more quickly degrade the screws from the bottom up as those are also the ones that will sit on the ground. Meaning they might rust and break making the bottom not as sound as the sides. Again, I'm no expert at all, and I could be very wrong about this for different reasons. It was just something that popped in my head as I watched....not all the way through it yet.

Beautiful. I love how close all of those tolerances are; not an inch of wasted space, but everything is still relatively easy to get to. The one thing I can foresee being a headache is having those wedges slide down into the channel when you remove that can of bar oil. Maybe put a thin panel to make a separate compartment or glue and tack some 1/4" square strips in the bottom for the tips of the wedges to go into. I can't wait to see it finished.

Now take it all apart and add glue. Then you can reassemble and add braces to reinforce the box. Add slats to the bottom to keep your base off the ground from collecting moisture....this box sure isn't "Wranglerstar Proper"

Hi Cody Who am I to be critical of you.... but to add extra strength I would add Titebond 3 to all the joints after set up. Especially if it’s going to live outside and have pocket hole screws I’m not the praying/god believing type (we’re not all the same which is what makes life interesting) but I’ll probably look up at my kitchen ceiling and say I really need to paint it....... followed by a prayer 😀 love your videos and look forward to watching the next chapter Cheers S Professional Engineering...... Hey Cody, couldn't notice that the layout and the method of transporting all the gear is pretty specific, unmodular and unpractical in my opinion. If you are going to replace the water bottles, petrol containers down the line, they probably won't fit in the designed spaces, if you destroy or lose one of whe wedges or get new ones they won' fit etc...The whole box is designed to fit your specific vehicle, it's probably gona be pretty hard to fit it in someone elses vehicle, you need to pull out every hand tool if you eant to use just the chainsaw. A more universal and modular apprach would be more usefull and practical...just a grain of salt.
